Because with rosin, you need to use some sort of chemistry, either a saponifier in a water-based system or another solvent. Most high-rel people, traditionally, have used water-soluble fluxes because they're stronger fluxes, they give a more robust soldering process and they're easier to clean. So, for getting more robust soldering, handling a wider range of solderability, of your materials, your leads and your circuit boards, water-soluble is typically a choice. Notice I said, "Most cases." Also, it gives us a much wider window on the activation that we can put in the flux. Why? Because it's designed to be cleaned and in most cases it can be cleaned with heated water, without any additional chemistry. If we are considering cleaning it is much more desirable to use water-soluble. That's important because, if the question is between water-soluble and no-clean, that is a whole different issue. This is a very interesting question, but I want the listeners to be careful about the statement at end of that question, "We have cleaning systems that can clean either." So, we are not considering a no-clean process. "What are the major differences between rosin-based fluxes and water-soluble fluxes? And, assuming we have updated equipment and cleaning systems to handle either process, under what circumstances should we use one process over the other?" The question for today has to do with fluxes. ![]() This is Phil Zarrow and Jim Hall of ITM Consulting. He is a pioneer in the science of reflow. The UI is not as flashy or nice as what Mosyle Manager has on their website. There is a bit of work to setup, but the support is great and once you understand how the management tool works, its really really good, however there are some slight nuanced things that I look past, like the UI is not friendly on a Windows PC, sometimes remote commands don't get sent through properly. ![]() JS students are 1-1 with iPads and Chromebooks, I manage roughly 150 iPads and over 250 Macs. I work at a school (K-12) that is primarily a Windows shop and have deployed Jamf Pro (Casper Suite) for iPads and Macs. Am I wrong that this is a universal scenario or is the process somehow faster/streamlined with a solution like Jamf instead? oh ,30 minutes? 45? Again, the first couple of steps are out of our hands so it could take longer if Apple is slow about things on their end. Then there's the wait for the app to be pushed and downloaded/installed on each device. Then the app is assigned/pushed from the MDM. There's a wait involved with getting that processed and licenses being made available. First there's the purchase part from the VPP store. I'm partially of the mindset that the issue is the same regardless of the MDM. Since there's no good outcome to me replying "You mean, it makes you and/or the teacher actually plan ahead more than 5 minutes?" I instead figured I'd see if it's a fixable problem. The person in charge of doing this here now has said that it's a hurdle and that it prevents her from being more responsive and timely with requests. One complaint I've gotten regarding Mosyle is the slowness of being able to acquire and deploy apps. So from a strict "iPad management", which do you think is superior and why? And bonus points if you've actually used both and/or switched from one to the other!ĮDIT/UPDATE - In an effort to address a specific complaint about Mosyle: One other key note here is that we don't have any managed Macs/ other Apple devices in our environment. Does anyone here have experience with that? Is this a case of the "grass is greener" (the person pushing for JAMF doesn't really have any experience with JAMF OR Mosyle but I think they've head of other schools using JAMF successfully and therefore assume it's what we need) and the reality is that each of the MDMs have limitations? ![]() Really I'm just not clear on what it'd offer us over Mosyle Manager. In other words, I'm not sure it's really a good fit for our small environment. I have no prior experience with JAMF and most if what I've heard as anecdotal review is that it's the sort of "de facto" Mac management solution but can be very complex, unwieldy, and complicated for smaller deployments. I'm getting a hard push from a new hire to look at JAMF Pro. Mosyle seems to largely do what we need, but the interface can be a bit unintuitive and the lack of real time support is a big bummer. We have an Apple VPP account, ASM account, and Apple DEP account. We've got a growing amount of iPads and Chromebooks.Īs we are looking at our future plan, it appears that it likely includes a decrease in Windows-based PCs and an increase in iPads and Chromebooks.Ĭurrently we use Mosyle Manager to handle the iPad management. We're a small, single site, private, K-8 that is primarily a Windows shop. |
